Following the results of his Youth and Parent Survey, held at the end of 2024, the Matthew Scott, Kent's Police & Crime Commissioner, has launched an internet safety campaign.

It's aim is to highlight the potential harms of smartphones, social media and other online platforms to youngsters in Year 5,6 and 7.

The survey revealed that 34% of primary children and 29% of secondary pupils had been bullied or picked on online and 16% of secondary and 14% of primary children admitted they'd cyber bullied or picked on someone else.

Of those who’d been bullied only 46% of secondary students and 57% of primary pupils told their parents or guardians: 30% of secondary and 21% of primary children said they’d hadn’t told anyone.

As part of this campaign, Matthew Scott is visiting local schools to highlight the issues. The youngsters are also designing posters and the best ones of will be published on the Commissioner's website and online platforms, as well as being printed out for the schools to use.
